Hour:4:00 am Start/finish line:Selva Verde Lodge, Chilamate de Sarapiqui Mandatory meeting for all categories: Selva Verde Lodge Friday May 24th 6:30pm Distances:50 miles, 25 miles, Fun Run 10 miles and kids’ race. Limited registration to 350 runners. Kids race 50 Time limit: Ultra Marathon: 14 hours, 25 miles: 7 hours, 10 miles: 3 hours. These times are NOT negotiable. Any runner out on the course at the time of the cut off’s, will have to jump on the first Staff vehicle that goes by them.
Weather:You should expect temperatures ranging the 77 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit, and a humidity level of up to 90%. This condition makes it very important for all runners to take the precautions needed to avoid dehydration. There will be several check points where you will find water, electrolytes, fruit, potatoes, etc. (below, more details)). All participants will receive:

Prizes:there will be cash prizes for the first male and female in the Ultra Marathon ONLY. There will also be trophies and sponsors gifts for the first 3 places in each category. Kids will get finishers medals.

- Ultra Marathon 8 CP`s: water, electrolytes, fruit, cookies, granola bars, nuts, PB sandwiches, potatoes, candies, etc.
- 25 miles 4 CP`s: water, electrolytes, fruit, cookies, granola bars, nuts, PB sandwiches, potatoes, candies, etc.
- 10 miles 2 CP`s: water, electrolytes, fruit.
- Kid’s 1 CP`s: wáter, electrolytes, fruit
Q50 Costa Rica is one tough race! Even there will be enough aid stations, all runners are obligated to carry a water bag, bottle (mandatory gear list) to make sure you have a good hydration which is going to be vital due the conditions and also to make sure you will at least finish the race! There will be NO glasses, cups or recipient to distribute fluids at the aid stations. Another reason why you should carry at least a 16oz bottle.
Rules and others: IMPORTANT: It is the responsibility of every runner to know and respect all race rules. At the same time, every runner will be responsible for being medically, physically and mentally prepared for a race with the characteristics and difficulty of Q50 Costa Rica. You should have a complete medical check before the race! All information will be posted on the web page www.ultracostarica.com and www.q50races.com so everybody will be able to know the characteristics of each category.
Rules Q50 Costa Rica Ultra Marathon 2013 – You will be running in areas where nature will offer all of its beauty, leave no trace! You should carry all your trash (gel things, papers, plastic bags, paper, etc,) and deposit it in the containers that will be available in each CP or at the start/finish line. Whoever throws away any kind of waste out on course will be immediately disqualified! We have eyes everywhere! No excuses accepted! – It is completely forbidden to extract, cut, or damage any natural element. (Flora, fauna, rocs, etc.). It is legally forbidden and will be a reason for disqualification as well. Show your respect by taking care of our natural environment, after all that is one of the reasons you came to this race! – Runners will have to pay for their medical expenses in case of emergency. Refunds will apply according to insurance policy regulations. Ir It is recommended to have travel insurance. With the registration fee you get a race insurance. – Ultra runners and 25 milers are permitted to receive assistance from support crew at 25 miles ONLY. Fast Fun Run runners are NOT permitted to get any assistance. Whoever receives support in an unauthorized area or point will be disqualified immediately. Runners can assist other runners. – There will be mandatory CP’s along the course. This can be modified and/or relocated at any time by the Race Director only. – At the pre race meeting, which is mandatory for all categories, detailed information will be given for all distances, last minute changes, and relevant information from the organization point of view. It is the responsibility of each runner to attend this technical briefing (30 min) and be up to date with the information given. - No pacers are allowed. Not on foot, bike, motorcycle, car, etc. Inmediate disqualification, or a time penalty of up to 3 hours – For security reasons, no vehicles other than organization vehicles are allowed on the course.- Runners can only receive support at the designated areas. Runners can receive assistance from staff or another runner at any time or place. – Cut off times are not negotiable. This will be revealed with the course map and profile – Race bibs must be in front and in a visible place. They cannot be cut, bend, or modified in any way. There will be a 5 minute time penalty if rule not followed. - Be nice to other runners. – Traffic on the different roads where there could be cars will be normal. You should be super precautious. On these sections there is a trail on the side of the road. You MUST use this trail. There will be a time penalty or even disqualified depending on the case. We will have several members of the staff that will be moving around the course looking out for your safety. In case of emergency, runners should inform them or the nearest CP. IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION AS A RESULT OF: – Taking short cuts. – Not checking in at CP’s. – Receiving any kind of assistance of non staff people outside authorized areas. The only authorized area is 25 miles. – Riding in any King vehicle. – Throwing trash or waste along the course. – Damage or extract any natural element along the course or outside of it. – Not carrying the mandatory gear. MANDATORY GEAR: These elements are mandatory for all runners with no exception, and there will be random checks during the race. These are safety items. Missing one of these will result in disqualification of the race.
- Water Bag, bottle or anything where you can carry a minimum of 16oz of fluids. Hydration is vital in these kinds of races. Each one of you will be responsible for carrying everything you need between aid stations.
- Race bib MUST be in a visible place without any modifications and should be worn at all times.
- Whistle – Ultra Marathon and Marathon only.
- Headlamp for the Ultra Marathon and Marathon category.
DROP BAGS Ultra runners will be able to have a drop bag at a safety area at the start/finish/ 25 mile point. In these bags you can have all you consider necessary for the next part of the race. Your bag must be tagged with your name and number. We will have staff at this point making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. Please avoid leaving any valuables in the bags. Even though there will be staff, the organization is NOT responsible for any losses. Staff will NOT transport any bags, and they should be delivered at the start line. Only one bag per runner, and the bag must be well identified. Open bags or with no name and number will not be accepted. SAFETY: Safety and the well being of every runner is a priority. There will be a medic and paramedics available and moving around during the race. RECOMMENDATIONS:
- We recommend all runners to get an insurance or medical coverage at the time of the race. To all foreign runners it is recommended to get a travel insurance.
